Employer Engagement Officer

East Kilbride Credit Union
Description of post: 

East Kilbride Credit Union, West Lothian Credit Union, Kingdom Credit Union, Castle Community Bank and 1 st Alliance (Ayrshire) Credit Union (the “Credit Union Consortium”) are working together to create a new role of Employer Engagement Officer. The post holder will be responsible for increasing the number of employers who offer their staff credit union-backed affordable loans and hassle-free savings products through automatic payroll deduction. This is a fixed term, two-year post as part of a partnership project funded by the Consortium and the Carnegie UK Trust.

Post: Employer Engagement Officer

Employer: East Kilbride Credit Union

Reports to: John Lange, General Manager, East Kilbride Credit Union.

Salary: £25,000 plus pension contribution

Location: East Kilbride. An element of home working may also be considered. A regular presence is expected within each credit union where hot desk arrangements will be made. A nominated person from each credit union participating in the project will support the post holder when they are located in partner establishments.

Requirement to travel: The post holder will be required to travel regularly to carry out their duties across East Kilbride, West Lothian, Fife, Edinburgh (EH Postcode) and Ayrshire. They will be comfortable working independently and efficiently manage their own time and travel. The ideal candidate will have access to their own vehicle and will be able to claim a mileage rate for journeys and for other reasonable expenses incurred in the course of their duties.

Full time / part time: Full time (35 hours per week). Flexible working / secondment may be considered for a suitable candidate.

Temporary / permanent: This is a fixed-term post of two years duration. Extension of the role beyond two years is entirely dependent on securing new funding arrangements.

Saveeasy Credit Union operates from its headquarters in 6-8 Bridge Street in the centre of Llanelli and has three satellite offices in Pembroke Dock, Haverfordwest and Cardigan. Serving about 5,000 active members, it was registered in November 1998.

We are looking for a Chief Executive with proven management experience and a strong community attitude to continue the past twenty years of growth and service to its members.

This is a strong Credit Union operating at a surplus with a well-developed ethos of a community financial co-operative, offering savings and loan products to its members on a not-for-profit basis. The Credit Union has some £6,000,000 in member’s savings and employs 15 staff between 4 offices and prides itself in providing personal, face to face service to all its members.

Saveeasy was registered in November 1998 under the name of Llanelli & District Credit Union Ltd. currently trading as SAVEEASY.

During its lifetime Saveeasy has undergone many changes, mainly legislative, but never lost its ethos of a community financial co-operative, offering savings and loan products to its members on not-for-profit basis.

All credit unions are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and Prudential Regulation Authority and are covered by Financial Services Compensation Scheme and Ombudsman Service, just like all other banks in the UK.

Credit unions are allowed to operate within their Common Bond area, which in case of Saveeasy is: “Living or working” in West Glamorgan, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. Saveeasy has £6,000,000 in member’s savings and £5,700,000 in loans. Audited accounts are available on request.

Saveeasy employs 15 staff between 4 offices and prides itself in providing personal, face to face service to all of its members. That includes regular house collections for those who are housebound. Looking forward, Saveeasy is about to undertake a total refurbishment of the property it owns next to its offices in Llanelli, a major investment of circa £500,000 for the future use of the members, staff and trustees.

The appointment of a Chief Executive with responsibility for the day to day running and strategic development of the credit union. The new Chief Executive will pick up the explicit brief for building the business to achieve this aim. This will include responsibility for:

  • Growing a simple financially sound product base and marketing plan to raise deposits and continue to lend sensibly to the local community.
  • Develop YCU’s services and business functions by working with technology providers and other credit union provider partners.
  • Manage the team by organizing the workload and developing operating protocols to better service our customers and further develop the skills of our team members.
  • Maintain and develop management and compliance structures to ensure the operation of the business in a manner compliant within the standards demanded by the FCA and PRA.

With demonstrable experience in a strategic leadership role (ideally within retail financial institutions) and delivering positive results, the successful individual will be a practical hands-on delivery-focused executive.
