Additional background information
Saveeasy was registered in November 1998 under the name of Llanelli & District Credit Union Ltd. currently trading as SAVEEASY.
During its lifetime Saveeasy has undergone many changes, mainly legislative, but never lost its ethos of a community financial co-operative, offering savings and loan products to its members on not-for-profit basis.
All credit unions are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and Prudential Regulation Authority and are covered by Financial Services Compensation Scheme and Ombudsman Service, just like all other banks in the UK.
Credit unions are allowed to operate within their Common Bond area, which in case of Saveeasy is: “Living or working” in West Glamorgan, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. Saveeasy has £6,000,000 in member’s savings and £5,700,000 in loans. Audited accounts are available on request.
Saveeasy employs 15 staff between 4 offices and prides itself in providing personal, face to face service to all of its members. That includes regular house collections for those who are housebound. Looking forward, Saveeasy is about to undertake a total refurbishment of the property it owns next to its offices in Llanelli, a major investment of circa £500,000 for the future use of the members, staff and trustees.
